How our locks work
Your carrier delivers. Your key opens.
Every locking Aerobox and Courier has a door that cracks open just enough for your carrier, and a key that opens it the rest of the way. Here’s how it works.
In the real world
On real porches, on real streets.

Built so mail stays put
Room for mail, and nothing more.
- Mail settles at the bottom of the box, well below the opening.
- An inward lip along the top of the door, the intrusion flap, guards the opening.
- 20-gauge steel, powder-coated. Handcrafted in North Carolina.
Your call
The lock is optional.
Leave it unlocked, and the door opens like any mailbox. Lock it when you travel, or never. It’s up to you.
Questions
What people ask us.
Can my carrier still deliver when it’s locked?
Yes. Locked, the door still cracks open, from ½″ up to 2″ depending on how you set it. That’s enough for letters, magazines and, at 2″, small packages.
How do I get my mail out?
Turn your key. The latch lets go, and the door opens all the way.
What fits through the opening?
It depends on the setting. ½″ takes letters and cards, 1″ adds magazines and catalogs, 1½″ adds padded mailers, and 2″ adds small packages.
Can someone reach in and take my mail?
Mail settles at the bottom of the box, well below the opening. An inward lip along the top of the door, the intrusion flap, guards the gap.
Do I have to use the lock?
No. Leave it unlocked, and it opens like any mailbox.
Can I change the opening later?
Anytime. Remove the two screws on the security latch with a #1 Phillips screwdriver, move the latch, and replace them. Each hole is another ½″.
